100th Street Bus Depot Rock Characterization Project

The construction of the future New York City Transit 100 Street Bus Depot required deep rock excavation. YU was retained to inspect and evaluate existing conditions of the rock cut, assess the potential foundation loads influence on adjacent Subway line along Lexington Avenue and potential load influence on adjacent utility substation along 99th Street.

YU evaluated exposed rock slopes and identified two shear zones within massive Schist Formation. Shear Zone wedges and wedges induced by control blasting were evaluated. The rock sub grades were evaluated for construction of shallow foundations including drilled piers and spread footings.
