Corbin Street Lead Railroad

The Corbin Street Lead Railroad that extends into the future Express Rail Intermodal Transfer Facility in Elizabeth port is in poor condition and requires improvement. The lead track has experienced excessive movement and the asphalt pavement along the lead is damaged. A rehabilitation of the existing track to accommodate anticipated train traffic is required.

Yu & Associates, Inc. (YU) performed an initial subsurface investigation related to alternative route studies. Subsequently a final geotechnical evaluation was performed which included review/evaluation of available data, a final subsurface investigation, engineering analysis, and establishment of design criteria. A surcharge program was recommended and designed to stabilize areas of settlement concern. Geogrid was used to reinforce thereby reduce the thickness of the ballast substructure. Other services included heavy duty pavement design for areas within the ship terminal and steel structural design for the railroad signal structures.
