Elmhurst Hospital Center Emergency Department Expansion Project

Elmhurst Hospital proposed to construct a two story addition to it’s emergency department in order to accommodate the growing number of patients and provide them with modern treatment facilities. YU & Associates (YU) was retained as part of the design team to furnish Civil and Geotechnical Engineering for the planning and design of the project. The urban location of the project site presented numerous challenges for the overall design. YU provided recommendations for the special foundation design which was required due to the proximity of a NYCT subway structure. A combination of piles and footings was used. Extensive utility relocation was required because of the site constraints. YU also provided regulatory permitting services obtaining approvals from city agencies such as the NYCT, the NYCDEP and the NYCDOT.
