Harbor at Hastings Site

In an effort to restrain the errant spread of sediments and compromised surface water during off-shore dredging operations, the use of barrier wall as part of the containment system was adopted. YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) was retained by Earth Tech to evaluate the barrier wall concept so that the technical feasibility of installing the barrier wall could be assessed and conceptual design refined.

YU reviewed pertinent data and evaluated the design parameters for hydrodynamic loads and ice loads; conducted an independent evaluation of geotechnical design parameters; performed limited structural and geotechnical analysis; and summarized the results of the analysis and prepared a white paper. YU assisted in response to Preliminary Remedial Action Plan (PRAP) comments and furnished information to support the proposed concepts design.

YU provided the geotechnical engineering services and reviewed the geoenvironmental and structural design elements required for the constructability and feasibility of the barrier wall design concept. YU assisted Earth Tech in developing a conceptual design that would meet the client needs and be constructible using relatively conventional and/or existing materials, equipment and technology.
