LIRR Great Neck Interlocking

The purpose of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Great Neck Interlocking Improvements project was to extend the existing pocket track located east of Great Neck Station from ten-car to twelve-car capacity and to connect the pocket track to the main Port Washington running tracks. A straight rail from Port Washington track #2 to the pocket track was intended to reduce delays associated with eastbound trains being held at Great Neck. The improvements were planned in two locations east of Great Neck Station in Nassau County, NY.

YU & Associates, Inc., (YU) was retained to perform an Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of the proposed sites and evaluate them for the presence of hazardous materials. YU performed an ESA in accordance with ASTM Standard E-1527-97 and Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments. The ESA included a site reconnaissance, a review of available environmental and historic information, contacts with regulatory offices, and preparation of the ESA report

YU also collected soil samples and had them analyzed for hazardous materials and then prepared a report of the findings.
