LIRR Hillside Yard Maintenance of Way (MoW)

LIRR Hillside Yard Maintenance of Way (MoW), Queens, NY - The planned renovations at the Long Island Rail Road’s Maintenance of Way (MoW) Facility include a 7500 square foot (ft2) expansion of the existing facility and provision of a 100 ton bridge crane inside the expanded part of the building. A new 1800 ft2 welding facility will also be constructed on the MoW site. Both facilities will be single story, clear span, Pre-Engineered Buildings and will include provision of new sections of rail road track embedded in the concrete slab-on-grade. These sections of track will allow rail bound equipment to be serviced within the facility.

YU & Associates (YU) was retained as the Environmental Engineer to investigate and obtain subsurface information to screen soil for potential contamination within the vicinity of the proposed construction. Field exploration work plan and Health & Safety Plan preparation, document research, boring and sampling analyses, data evaluation, and engineering reports were included among YU’s scope of work. YU prepared construction specifications for the excavation and handling of waste materials. YU provided the Design Team with foundation recommendations to minimize costs associated with the potential environmental risks.
