New Jersey Dental School

The New Jersey Dental School, part of the UMDNJ system, opened its new Oral Health Pavilion in June 2004. YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) provided site/civil engineering services for this 95,000 SF, 3-story addition to the existing Dental School. The site design involved two new plaza areas, lighting and landscaping, a new Stormwater management system, utility design and grading. One of the challenges of this project was the need to construct new utility crossings under existing concrete encased communications duct banks, located one foot away from the proposed building. This was accomplished by working collectively with all of the utility service providers to develop alternatives to standard separation requirements. YU was responsible for obtaining regulatory approvals, which included Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Permit and coordination of new utility connections and traffic patterns with the City of Newark.
