NJDEP Field Sampling

Periodically, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) undertakes investigation to identify sources of contamination from off-site properties using on call contracts. YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) has been retained to provide field sampling and evaluation service for such projects via on call contract. Gasoline compounds were encountered in wells used by residences in the rural town of Lakewood, NJ. The plume extended along a narrow stretch of over one half mile and to a depth of over 130 feet.

YU engineers advanced soil borings and collected groundwater samples at multiple depths up to 130 feet below ground surface. Samples were collected through borings advanced using a Geoprobe machine, and dedicated tubing. Samples were analyzed using a field Gas Chromatograph (GC) and benzene concentrations in water were detected on a real-time basis. This approach resulted in quick delineation of the contamination plume and in planning additional borings without multiple mobilizations.
