Passaic Riverfront Masterplan

YU & Associates (YU) was selected as part of a design team to prepare a masterplan of the Passaic Riverfront in Newark, New Jersey. YU’s role in the project included the coordination of the civil design concepts, environmental constraints and regulatory compliance issues, and is responsible for assisting in the preparation of conceptual and schematic design of infrastructure issues.

As the renaissance of the City of Newark continues, the design team was challenged to formulate an implementable plan that enhanced the relationships between the waterfront, the Performing Arts Center and the Newark Bears minor league baseball stadium. As part of the project the City challenged the team to identify “green” sustainable solutions in order to preserve and enhance the ecology of the waterfront. The waterfront is separated from the City of Newark by Route 21 and a Light Rail system posing a challenge to find the appropriate access points for vehicular, pedestrian traffic, and bicycle traffic.
