PS 292X Barnes Avenue

As a subconsultant to the Architect, YU & Associates (YU) provided geotechnical engineering services for this proposed 5- story school building with a cellar in a dense urban environment. During initial phases of the project, the site was occupied by Young Israel of Pelham Parkway Temple. To keep the project schedule on track, YU conducted the geotechnical study prior to demolition of the existing building in tight basement spaces and narrow areaways.

YU investigated the configuration of existing foundations of adjacent properties from test pits, site reconnaisance and interviews, and a paper search. Our Geotechnical Engineering Report included recommendations for underpinning adjacent properties, foundations, rock excavation, groundwater control, lateral earth pressures on below grade walls, and limited seismic evaluation. YU provided Construction Administration services including review of support of excavation submittals, rock bolt design and underpinning scheme.
