Samuel Gompers Vocational High School

Since a portion of an existing slab in the basement of Samuel Gompers Vocation High School had deteriorated, YU & Associates (YU) was retained to perform a limited forensic geotechnical study for the proposed floor slab rehabilitation by New York School Construction Authority (NYCSCA).

The project was to include replacement of three separate portions of the existing basement floor slab in an area of the existing school which has relatively little headroom (approximately 6 feet). The purpose of this study was to attempt to identify the cause of the subject slabs’ reported distressed conditions and prepare recommendations for the design and construction of the replacement slabs.
