The U.S. Post Office and Courthouse

The US Post Office and Courthouse is a historic structure located in Brooklyn Civic Center. The 598,268 gross square foot building occupies an entire city block, fronting on Cadman Plaza, a major public space around which many federal, state and municipal buildings are located. Originally constructed in 1892, the building was enlarged in 1933. The project includes exterior restoration and roof replacement. YU & Associates, Inc. (YU) was retained as part of a design team to provide environmental consulting on hazardous materials to be abated prior to reconstruction. YU conducted an exterior survey of different building elevations to determine and locate asbestos and lead containing materials in compliance with Federal, State and City Regulations and developed comprehensive hazmat abatement design to eliminate the asbestos and lead exposure for public during the construction phase.
